Portfolio Allocation Drift Worksheet

Compare the current weights of supplied holdings with your own target weights.

Your inputsBrowser calculationCSV export

Hypothetical holdings of 0.012 BTC at 50,000 USD and 0.2 ETH at 2,000 USD are worth 600 and 400 USD. Against chosen 50%/50% targets, current weights are 60%/40%, with drifts of +10 and −10 percentage points. Mathematical value changes are −100 and +100 USD, or 200 USD of total absolute movement.

What this helps you check

Price changes can move portfolio weights away from a target even when quantities stay unchanged. This worksheet values your supplied holdings, calculates each current weight and measures drift in percentage points. It also shows the mathematical value and unit changes implied by those chosen targets.

The changes describe arithmetic relative to your targets, not trade instructions. Total absolute value changes counts both sides of a shift and is not an expected profit or fee estimate. Actual steps, costs and market availability would require separate planning.

Inputs are processed in your browser by this calculator. There is no quote lookup or file upload for the calculation. Site measurement and consent are handled separately by the site's privacy and consent controls.

CSV schema: asset (text), quantity (number), price (number), target_pct (number). Header required; comma delimiter. Numeric fields use decimal points. Timestamps require Z or a numeric UTC offset. The original input remains unchanged.

Comma-separated CSV with a header. Maximum 500 rows and 200,000 characters.

Interactive calculation requires JavaScript. The method and hypothetical worked example below remain readable.

The example is invented to demonstrate the method. It is not a current market quote, a provider's fee schedule or verified trading performance.

How the worksheet works

  1. Distinct asset names; quantity>=0, price>0, target_pct in [0,100]; total current value>0.
  2. Require target weights sum to 100 within 1e-8 percentage points.
  3. value_i=quantity_i*price_i; current_weight=100*value_i/total.
  4. drift=current_weight-target_pct; target_value=total*target_pct/100.
  5. value_change=target_value-current_value; unit_change=value_change/price.
  6. Sum absolute value changes is gross movement, not fees or expected profit.

The changes describe arithmetic relative to your targets, not trade instructions. Total absolute value changes counts both sides of a shift and is not an expected profit or fee estimate. Actual steps, costs and market availability would require separate planning.

Boundaries to keep in view

  • Target allocation is user chosen; no investment allocation recommendation.
  • Prices are user supplied; include cash as its own row if it belongs in the portfolio scope.
  • Changes are before fees, spreads, order constraints and availability; no automatic execution.

Compare resources for this task

Allocation review depends on complete holdings, chosen targets and dated prices. Portfolio record tools and spreadsheets may help organize those inputs; this comparison does not rank investment outcomes or prescribe an asset mix.
